Program Summary
San Antonio Ethics in Business Awards
2009
The San Antonio Ethics in Business Awards is a program
of the Ecumenical Center for
Religion and Health, in partnership with the UTSA
College of Business.
The Purpose
The purpose of the San Antonio Ethics in Business Awards is
to bring the importance of business ethics to the forefront
of communities throughout San Antonio and to honor those individuals
and companies that practice and believe in good ethics. It
is hoped that businesses throughout the community will aspire
to be considered for this award.
The Awards
Five awards are given to: a large business, a medium
business, a small business, a not-for-profit organization,
and an individual that demonstrate business excellence and
the highest standards of ethical conduct, integrity and civic
and social responsibility.
The History
The San Antonio Ethics in Business Awards is based on a program
created more than 15 years ago by the Samaritan Institute
in Denver, Colorado, an affiliated organization of the Ecumenical
Center for Religion and Health. These Founders felt that individuals
and companies who have successfully integrated ethical business
conduct and social responsibility into their daily decision-making
should be publicly honored.
The Process
A public announcement for nominations will occur annually in the summer. Honors business students in the UTSA Business School will spend approximately 8 – 10 hours over the fall semester interviewing and conducting research with the nominee/CEO as part of their semester course work. Over 15 additional hours will be spent with other key staff. A Selection Committee of community leaders reviews the results of the students’ research and chooses the award recipients..
The Event
The Ethics in Business Awards are presented at a dinner event held in April of each year. A nationally known speaker
on ethics in business will speak and participating students
will be recognized in addition to the awarding of the recipients.
The Beneficiaries
Proceeds from the event benefit the Ecumenical Center for
Religion and Health to strengthen individuals, families and
organizations and the UTSA Business School to further the
study and teachings of ethical business practices.
